Due to the success of the Sunbury Art Trail 2007 we are delighted to be able to participate again this year. We will be showing the work of fifteen artists all of whom will be exhibiting new and exciting work in a variety of media.
Since the mid 1800's when James McNeill Whisler and Fantin La Tour visited Sunbury to paint, there has been a flourishing art community in the Spelthorne area. This Art Trail covers a 1 1/2 mile radius that wends it's way along the River Thames.
This is a great opportunity to spend an afternoon looking at art, take a walk beside the Thames, and maybe have a picnic, or eat at one of the many establishments along the route. A great day out for all.
Take M3 and M25 direction Richmond. Take A308 (Staines Road East) direction Kempton Park. Pass the racecourse and turn right into Harefield Road, take first turning on your right (Bramwell Close) Helen Hadley's studio is the first house on left.
Leaving Helen's, turn right out of Bramwell Close back on to Harfield Road, Daphne Clement's house is half way down on the right hand side.
Leaving Daphne's studio continue down Harfield Road and a T Junction turn right onto the Lower Hampton Road. At mini roundabout turn right into French Street and about half way down on left you will find number 83, the studio of Vic Kettle & John Stamp. On leaving Vic's turn around and continue cask to the mini roundabout and turn right into Thames Street. The Riverside Arts Centre and Craft Centre are about half a mile on the right hand side. Take the lane to the right of the old bank building and you will find a glass/wooden door leading to the Studio. Here you will find artists Malcom West, Hildegarde Reid, Robert Shaw, Freda Anderson and Sue Munson.
Leaving the Studio cross over the courtyard to the Craft Centre. Here you will find three studios. Robin Lee Hall, Douglas and Pauline Burnett in the pottery and Annie Shaw and Mary Shanahan in the upstairs studio.
Leaving the Craft Centre turn right onto Thames Street and the Embroidery Gallery can be found in the Walled Garden quarter of a mile on the right hand side (good parking and excellent cafe). Here you will find Susan McArtur, Ann Swann and David Newman.
