Maria Billington

Metalsmith

I live and work in Surrey where I have a small workshop. I studied at the Surrey Institute of Art & Design. My material of choice is mild steel but I also work in both copper and aluminium. My aim is to show the beauty of steel through a variety of techniques - forging, hammering, forming, etching, repousse, polishing and heat colouring; and that even though steel is predominantly an industrial material, it can be both beautiful and delicate while retaining it's strength. My inspiration for my work comes from both the natural and urban landscape.

See the artist's SAOS Member web page for more information.

Maria Billington welcomes visitors all year round by appointment.
