Soizick Freeman
Painter / Printmaker
Colour and surface interest me the most. I aim to balance luminous and reflective areas of colour with densely, brushed or inlaid sections. I like to paint on gessoed wooden panels that have been created through successive vertical and horizontal layers, sanded down to a smooth marble-like finish. I work within an abstract framework, although both my paintings and monotypes are often inspired by a figurative starting point. The mono-types are produced by repeated printing. I try to apply flat base colours which are then made more intricate with thread and mesh patterns.
