Thursday 29th – Saturday 31st May, opening hours 12 – 5pm daily
Bringing artists working practice to the High Street
Seven Surrey artists will be showcasing their working practice and offering three short taster workshops everyday. So take the opportunity to have a go at stonecarving, silkpainting, painting, textiles, printmaking, mixed media work and ceramics.
Workshops will take place at the following times: 1, 2.30 and 4pm, fees £4 each, you can either book in advance or on the day, call 01483 757 258 or email caroline.jackman@surreycc.gov.uk.
Surrey Art in Action will be launching the start of this years Surrey Artists Open Studios, now in its ninth consecutive year with a record number of 290 artists and designer makers.
This event will give the public a chance to see a variety of talented artists and designer makers creating their craft. The artists will each have a working display of completed work for sale, work in progress and be onhand to answer questions about creative techniques. As the workshops are short, only half an hour, the emphasis is allowing people to have a go using brushes with different papers, building vessels in clay, silk painting, stone carving and exploring printmaking. We hope the general public will gain a better understanding of artists and their practice as well as being able to have fun!
The SAOS event is organised by Caroline Jackman at Surrey Arts who comments:
“This is the largest open submission event for artists in Surrey, a true opportunity for all.”
